Blog optimized for iPhone
Unforgiveable, that’s what it is – nearly six months since I procured my iPhone, I hadn’t even considered this. It is unforgiveable, but my blog wasn’t optimized for the iPhone display. But I am glad to say that it has been rectified and this site can be viewed quickly and properly on an iPhone screen. I rest easy.
Firefox Adblock Plus and Flash on Mac, Twinkle iPhone and all that.
As a Firefox user on Mac, I make use of the plethora of plugins available, best of which I find Adblock Plus to get rid of the ubiquitous Ads that plague the net. If you haven’t installed ABP already, stop reading now – and sully not my site. Oh well just kidding. Since the very beginning though I have had this recurring problem where the Flash content on any of the sites I visited would not show up or would show up as a blank frame with controls enabled. For the life of me I could not figure out whether the issue lay with the browser or my Installation. Never really did I give it much thought, since hey it is Flash and I can do without that.
Today though, being bored out of my skull I decided to "Google" around to find if there were others who had this problem and ran across a blog post that suggested that the problem lies with ABP, and unchecking "Show Tabs on Flash and Java" will correct the problem. And voila, doing that, I have my content back. Not bad.
I am waiting "sehnsuechtig" for Firefox 3 though. It is blazingly fast even in the Beta (5) stage and offers a fantastic array of options dealing with tags, bookmark organization and not to mention speed. I must however wait till June for the same. What I love most about it, is the OS customized look and feel. Firefox finally looks tamed for OS X. The best I could find for FF2 was a theme that makes it look a wee like Safari:

An inelegant workaround at best. But oh well.
The past week has been rather taxing on both motivation and energies. Things have kicked into a high gear at a personal level, though have hit a new low elsewhere. I find myself Twinkle’ing a lot more often from my iPhone on the road. It is a unique experience getting to read Twitter micro-blogs now contextualized to location. It is remarkable how such a simple concept catches on. Being in Amsterdam, I could read what people around me were up to, and could instantly query people in my immediate vicinity regarding the best places for x or y. The community being new, has ample motivation to respond. For now it feels good to be amongst the pioneers of the Twinkle group.
The week ahead is going to be awesome. Rissa arrives on Friday for an extended break of seven weeks! Though it shall be slog time for her as she prepares for her boards, I shall get to be with my love, and spend time together, and spend what promises to be a glorious summer together! Preparations for her arrival are already on, as the excitement reaches a fever pitch. Although before then, there is a lot of stuff that she needs to get done – an exam, and stuff.
I hope the current bout of excellent weather continues – it has been sunny and beautiful the past few days and since I have a day off on Wednesday (Queen’s day in the NL), I plan to go to Aachen to enjoy the beer and the sunshine a wee bit.
Off to goof off some more, probably watch some more "24" etc. Cheers!
Blogging from the iPhone
wPhone plugin for WP works! I am currently blogging from my iPhone using the WP mobile admin page. Perfect.
This, as I attend the OTEC plenair – where Wolfgang just finished his presentation about the importance of blogging in an organizational context. The presentation has sparked off an interesting discussion indeed. More later.
NVInject.kext FTW
Video Lags that had crept in, in my custom Hackintosh installation are a thing of the past! I replaced the kext with the latest I found around the Interwebs and to my intense happiness, it works like a charm. No artifacts, no lag issues at all. I ought to keep a closer watch on the NVInject arena from now it seems. But it is just so refreshing to be able to work on my system without worrying about the invariable lag or lockups creeping in.
Picking up pace
Over the last few days, developments have indeed picked up pace, the departments showing alacrity and speed in every facet of the process – something both Rissa and I are rather happy for, and do hope that the trend continues.
It has been a slow weekend so far. The plans to go out with the Namesake fell through last night due to my own somnolence and inactive turpitude. As a result, I did miss out on a couple of pints of Guinness. For sure the namesake must be hopping pissed, for which I apologize m8! So what have I been doing since I woke up in the late hours of last night? Well, one word – movies. Having a load of HD movies in my possession, I decided last night to "re-watch" some of the classics. Started with a Testosterone pumped "Rambo" and went on to Sci-Fi pumping classic "Predator" in HD. Thoroughly enjoying the two, I ended the night watching American Dad, season 3. Is it just me, or is AD actually becoming watch-able in the current season. I think maybe it is so because they have dialed the main protagonist down a notch.
This afternoon I decided to give "Predator 2" a try. Boy do I rue the decision. The sequel can’t hold a candle to the original. It is so awful that I, a fan of B grade Sci Fi movies, find the plot, the acting, the effects, everything down to Glover’s lopsided performance – rather cliche and very boring. I guess the charm of the original lies in the situation Arnie (who sounds so much like Wolfgang in our office, or the other way round) finds himself – alone in the jungle, forced to fight the Predator on its own turf, devising weapons and defensive techniques, as well as the reverence almost one feels for the Predator, and its thirst for the kill. The sequel just grates on the nerves, and robs the original alien of any kind of mystique or respect. But I think I over-analyze a wee. But, watching the flick again after nearly 10-12 odd years makes me reminiscence about my teenage years when any odd flick with an iota of S-effex could make me go woo. Not so much anymore.
And on a side note, thanks guys all of you who took the time out to congratulate us on our great news, either on my blog or per mail!
